Mini-Me - A "New" Player Model for Heretic II
---------------------------------------------

Mini-Me is the Heretic II Corvus model, shrunk to 40% of his original
size. All of the normal Corvus sounds have been raised in pitch by 30%
for Mini-Me to make him sound like a little guy ("It's out of power!").

Mini-Me can wear any normal Corvus (male) skin. Included with Mini-Me
is a new male skin, Dr. Evil (drevl). This skin can be used both on
Mini-Me and on the standard Corvus model.

Since the game has not been modified to account for the smaller size
of Mini-Me, he fights and moves and jumps exactly like normal Corvus.
Also, his bounding box is the same as normal Corvus, so despite his
small size he can't crawl into chicken-holes or go any other place
if Corvus couldn't.

Even though Mini-Me's staff is 60% shorter than Corvus, it hits and
does damage as if it were full length - proving once again that size
doesn't matter.

This is really an experiment in how to manipulate the data in a
Heretic II model file, but I hope you enjoy fiddling with it.

Installation
------------

The archive is set up to un-zip into the same folder that Heretic II
is installed in (for example, unzip to C:\program files). To finish
installation, do the following:

1) Unzip the archive onto the drive containing your Heretic II
folder. This will create a base/players/mini-me folder and a
   base/players/mini-gal folder.

To use Mini-Me in a game (in this example, with the new Dr. Evil skin),
go to the console and type:

skin mini-me/drevl

You can also select Mini-Me from the Multiplayer options menu, if you
don't have too many skins installed (bug in Heretic II). Three notes:
1) This only works if Mini-Me is also installed on the server
2) Players who don't have Mini-Me will see a normal Corvus model
3) If other players on the server have model downloads enabled, but
don't have Mini-Me installed, they will hate you, because the server
will interrupt their game to download Mini-Me to them. On a slow link
this could take a while - Mini-Me and all his sounds are about a 5MB
   download when not compressed.

How They Did It
---------------

Mini-Me was developed by Gwynhala (serotonin@earthlink.net) in June
of 1999. As far as we know, it was the first alternate Heretic II
model ever created (besides Raven's Kiera).

A 'C' program was used to scan the data of the Corvus model and modify
the X, Y, and X scale and Y displacement of every frame of animation.
The modified file was stored out as Mini-Me.

CoolEdit was used to raise the pitch of all the Corvus sounds so that
they would sound...well,....smaller.

The face of the Dr. Evil skin was produced by hand-editing and deforming
a promotional photo for Austin Powers II - consequently it looks quite
a bit like Mike Meyers' Dr. Evil.

You can download the full Mini-Me package as a ZIP file from this URL:

It's also available on various servers and mirror sites.
